Drunk on Comics Podcast 254: Marvel Generations Legacy: The Afterbirth

Linz, Tony, Josh, and Connor (kinda) got together in the studio this week to talk about some great comics and tasty news tidbits. Tony started the podcast by sharing the fun he had at Founder’s Black Party (you guy, living in Grand Rapids is literally the best) but the subject quickly moved to what brings us together every week, great comics.

Denver Comic Con Approaches

We’re just over 10 weeks away from the 6th Annual Denver ComicCon!  The Colorado Convention Center is once again hosting the event that 100,000 plus people will attend.  June 30 – July 2, Geek, Nerds, Cosplay and Gaming take over the Convention Center for a weekend of awesomeness.

The Guests that have us excited, run the gambit from Pop Culture and Music Icons, to Artist – This year’s list is immense, but here are a new that we’re most excited about.

Weird Al!! – From ‘Eat It’ to ‘Tacky’, Weird Al has been entertaining our ear holes since the early 80’s, and isn’t stopping anytime soon.  This is purely speculation, but could a concert happen?! How awesome would that be?!

Its a ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reunion! Juliet Landau, Eliza Dushku and James Marsters (technically Felicia Day too) were all on ‘Buffy’ back in the day.  This series is among many people’s favorites, and ours too!  This should be a fun reunion.

Wallace Shawn is coming to DCC?! NCONCEIVABLE!!  Really, thats – Inconveivable!

Voice Actors!  We’re really happy to see that more Voice Actors are getting the spotlight.  Here are a few we’re excited about –

From Aqua Teen Hunger Force, DBZ, American Dad, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Futurama, Samurai Jack and of course, The Dark Knight, BATMAN will be in the house!

These are just some of who we’re interested in for this year’s DCC.  Check back in a few days for another bunch of Guests we’re excited about and what our plans for the weekend might be.

Remember to get your tickets while you still can!  This Convention does sell out year after year, so don’t hesitate! Get your tickets HERE

Nathan Fillion Coming to Denver Comic Con!

DENVER  March 22, 2017   Denver Comic Con (DCC), Denver’s largest consumer convention and a program of education nonprofit Pop Culture Classroom (PCC), today announced Nathan Fillion has been added to the guest line-up for its June 30 , July 2, 2017 event at the Colorado Convention Center.

Fillion is well-known for his collaborations with Joss Whedon, starting with his role as Captain Malcom Reynolds in 2002’s television series Firefly, and the reprisal of the role for the feature film adaption Serenity, a recurring role as Caleb on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as Captain Hammer on Whedon’s Emmy-winning web series, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Fillion also appeared in Whedon’s screen adaption of Much Ado About Nothing as Dogberry.

Nathan Fillion is easily our most-requested guest, said Denver Comic Con director Christina Angel. I’m personally thrilled to be hosting him and I’m excited to give fans the experience so many have been asking for.

Fillion has embraced his role as a pop-culture icon in Alan Tudyk’s Con Man, a series available on Comic Con HQ about an actor trying to break out of his type-cast while earning a living on the comic con circuit. Fillion plays Jack Moore, an actor who has a much higher standing in the pop culture community than the main character.

Mainstream pop-culture fans will recognize Fillion for his work on ABC’s Castle, a role for which he won four People’s Choice Awards for his portrayal of Richard Castle. The series ran for eight seasons and more than 170 episodes. He’s also had a recurring role on ABC’s Modern Family and Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet.

Among his many roles, Fillion voiced the character Johnny Worthington in Pixar’s Monster University, as well as the Monstrous Inmate in Guardians of the Galaxy, a film franchise that will also feature Fillion in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 as Simon Williams.

Fillion joins other notable Denver Comic Con guests such as Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter), Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Felicia Day (Supernatural), Finn Jones (Marvels Iron Fist, Game of Thrones), Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin (Netflix’s Stranger Things), Khary Payton (The Walking Dead), Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride), Weird Al Yankovic and Gotham stars Ben McKenzie, Morena Baccarin and Robin Lord Taylor.

Denver Comic Con is one of the most attended pop culture conventions in America. The popularity is due in part because of its robust schedule of programmingmore than 400 hours of sessions during which artists, creators, celebrities and industry experts talk about their craft and their creationsas well as its family-friendly mission and environment. The largest portion of the show floor, more than 9,000 sq. ft., is dedicated to teens and children with activities designed to engage kids in education through pop culture.

Speech Bubble Episode 38 – “Fearless” Fred Kennedy

If you live in Toronto, you know him as the popular DJ on 102.1 The Edge. But his comic book geek cred is strongest as the writer behind the scifi epic ,The Fourth Planet published quarterly by Chapterhouse Comics. He’ll tell us how the idea had its roots in his love of paleo-cultural anthropology (the origins of culture) and how Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet changed his life. Meanwhile, we discuss why the endless crossover events and relaunches are ruining comics, how Fred got his start in radio and why he entered the ring with his own podcast Issue Zero.
